He was named outstanding male athlete for the class of 1970 after receiving All-district honors in football, basketball and baseball. He received a total of 8 varsity letters while at ACHS. Sammy was one of the co-captains for the last team that Coach Gordon Bragg coached. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976. He completed his A.A.S degree in Political Science in 1977. In 2017 he retired from BWXT after 32 years of service.
