Shirley Eye
Biography
Shirley Eye graduated from Scottsville High School in 1958, and moved to Appomattox in1965 from Northern Virginia. In 1971, at age 31, while working as secretary for the Appomattox School Board, Ms. Eye decided to become a teacher. She entered Longwood College (now University) full time and took David and Suzan to the J. P. Wynne Campus School, making the daily trip to Farmville a family affair. She graduated with honors in 1974, and earned her Master’s in 1977.
From secretary, to sixth grade teacher, to high school English teacher, to principal of Appomattox Primary School, to principal of Appomattox County High School, she says it’s been quite a ride. “You gotta have a dream / if you don't have a dream / How you gonna have a dream come true?” Ms. Eye spearheaded the Athletic Complex at ACHS from 1992 to 2000 that included a rubberized track, stadium lights on the baseball and softball fields, and the current Bragg Stadium.
