Biography

He is a 2009 graduate of Appomattox County High School, where he lettered in and captained both football and soccer. As a football player, he played a variety of positions throughout his high school career, and received all-district awards as a tight end, defensive end, and kicker. In soccer, He was a two-time MVP, and received all-district and all-region awards as a forward, leading his team in scoring throughout all seasons. In 2009, he was selected as the Allstate Virginia High School League Group A ‘Male Athlete of the Year’. Clifton is also a 2009 graduate of the Central Virginia Governor's School of Science and Technology. He received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University in 2013, and a doctorate of philosophy in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia in 2019.
