Brandy King Knabb
Class of 2000
Biography
She is a member of the ACHS Class of 2000. Brandy’s love for athletics began at age 5, when she became a gymnast. Her years of training and competing as a high-level gymnast prepared her for her transition into pole vaulting. Coach Lance Carter and David Read introduced her to the sport in 8th grade but she was unable to commit due to her gymnastics schedule. Finally, her senior year, she was able to begin pole-vaulting. Just 3 months after being introduced to the sport, she set a new state record and became the Virginia Outdoor State Pole Vault champion. That championship title gave her the opportunity to pole-vault at the collegiate level, where she competed with Christopher Newport University in Newport News from 2000-2004. During her collegiate career, she was the conference champion 4 years in a row in both indoor and outdoor pole vault. She was a 7-time NCAA national qualifier and in 2004 became an NCAA All-American. Brandy has maintained the school record for CNU of 13 foot 2 inches since 2004.
Brandy’s love for athletics has continued far past her college career. Brandy was the assistant pole-vault coach for Christopher Newport University in 2005 and 2006. She currently runs “Balance”, a gymnastics and pole-vault facility in Concord, VA.
