Josey Walton

Class of 2019

Biography

Josey graduated as a 4 year starter on both the women's volleyball and soccer teams at Appomattox High School. During her time on the volleyball team she was an outside hitter and contributed to 76 wins from 2015-2018. Josey had 795 career kills, holds the school record for aces with 159 during her last season, had 622 career digs, and holds the school record for service points in a career with 532. She was also the 2018 Dogwood District Volleyball Player of the Year. During her time on the women’s soccer team she earned her spot on the VHSL state record book for most assists in a career with 57 assists. Josey also became part of Appomattox history as a contributing player of the first Appomattox girls soccer team to play in the 2A state championship with a 22-1 season in 2018. She also was part of many victorious regional championships during her four years of high school. During her 2018-2019 soccer season Josey was named Comeback Player of the Year by the News and Advance Athletic Awards for her ongoing battle with Cystic Fibrosis and her ability to excel in two sports throughout her high school career. She has since gone on to play volleyball at the University of Lynchburg. During her senior season she was named to the National College Athlete Honor Society. While playing volleyball, Josey received her bachelor's degree in criminology with a minor in human services in May of 2022 and now plans to pursue a masters in social work. She now joins her father, Russel Walton, in the Appomattox Sports Hall of Fame.
