Biography
Jerod is a 2000 graduate of Appomattox County High School and earned a full basketball scholarship to Bluefield State University upon his graduation. During Jerod’s tenure at Bluefield State University, he obtained his bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration. Jerod has worked in the criminal justice system for over twenty years primarily as a certified alcohol and drug counselor. He later returned to Liberty University to further his education, earning a master’s degree in human service counseling, and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program with Liberty University pursuing an education doctorate in counseling with a specialization in traumatology.
While at Appomattox County High School, Jerod played four (4) years of basketball and was known for his “above the rim” playing style. As a player, he was the team co-captain during his junior and senior year. Throughout his tenure, Jerod was recognized for several accolades including: 1st Team All-District for two consecutive seasons, Honorable Mention All-Area for two consecutive seasons, and he ranked among the area’s leading scorers and rebounders for two consecutive seasons. In Jerod’s senior year, he led the Raiders averaging 15-points and 10-rebounds a game and was the only player in the Dogwood District to average a double-double with the Raiders ending that season with a 14-6 record.
At Bluefield State University, Jerod played four (4) years of collegiate basketball and earned the Third-Year Varsity award. He won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Battle of Bluefield game against cross-town rival Bluefield University. Jerod was also named to the All-Tournament team after a dominant performance during the Annual Currence Classic. In both his sophomore and junior year, he was amongst the leaders in the WVIAC in points and rebounds (Sophomore year: 14-points & 7-rebounds; Junior year: 12-points & 6-rebounds).
